Encouraging Patients to Keep Dental Appointments at Your Practice

Attractive woman

Attractive womanThis may surprise some dentists, but if any more than around 1% of your appointments result in a no-show or are canceled at the last minute, you are losing money and time. If you find that your patients frequently cancel or don’t show up at all, you may not be as profitable or successful as you otherwise could be. Luckily, there are a few ways to decrease this behavior in your dental practice.

Encouraging Patients to Keep Dental Appointments

Below are a few ways for you to help your patients realize the importance of keeping their appointments at your dental office:

  • Follow-Up Quickly – Following any no-show, it’s important to have your staff contact the patient to make sure everything is alright. If it’s the first offense for this patient, consider waiving any no-show fees as a courtesy. Give the patient a few options of appointments that have “just opened up.”
  • Update Your Technology – If you don’t already have a confirmation system in place, we suggest investing in one. This technology will allow you to send automated calls, e-mails, or texts to your patients in the days before their appointments. This will cut down on the number of no-shows or cancelations that result from patients forgetting about their appointments.
  • Patient Education – Keeping your patients educated about their dental health and the importance of check-ups, treatments, and follow-ups is a great way to motivate them to keep appointments. Building up a rapport with patients will allow them to put their trust in you and your diagnoses.

Putting the above tips into practice can help decrease the number of cancellations and no-shows at your dental office. Here at Dental Insurance Credentialing, we want to help take stress and responsibility off your plate, allowing you to spend more time caring for your patients and handling staff issues.
