The Importance of Your Dental Office Waiting Room

Front office with personnelAs the years go by and your dental office ages, you may find it necessary to redecorate or ramp up your dental practice’s waiting room. As a dentist, you may not think that the waiting room is of much importance, but it really is. Your waiting room serves as a first impression on your patients of what they can expect from your dental practice.

Most patients are busy and many of them are likely apprehensive about their visit to the dentist. Because of this, it’s important that your waiting room be as welcoming, relaxing, and comfortable as possible.

Dental Office Waiting Room Tips

Below are a few simple tips on how to revamp your waiting room and help make patients feel more at home:

  • Furniture – Industrial furniture may be popular, but it’s been shown that patients still prefer homey, comfortable furniture in a waiting room. Choose simple, comfortable pieces in a variety of styles (couches, loveseasts, chairs) to accommodate all patient preferences.
  • Reading Material – If your practice offers reading materials, make they’re regularly updated. Outdated or tattered newspapers or magazines can be off-putting for your patients.
  • Music – Studies have been conducted that show that patients feel more relaxed when music is playing in the waiting area. When considering the type of music to play in your office, be aware of your patient base. We recommend adult contemporary stations that are kept at moderate or minimal volume.
  • Extra Amenities – You may want to consider adding a few extra amenities to your office to show your patients that their comfort is important to you. A few amenities to consider would include a coat rack, hand sanitizer, tissues, and even free WiFi or a water cooler.

As a busy dentist, we know that your job can be stressful and overwhelming at times. Allow us to help lighten your load by taking care of your insurance credentialing needs! This way, you can spend more time managing your staff, caring for your patients, and running your successful dental practice.
